History

The Hungarian Air Force received a number of F-4's in October 1942. Later these were followed by G-2, G-6, G-10 and G-14 airframes.

In 1942 the Hugarian Air Force adopted a white cross on a black square as its insignia. Initially the fin and elevator wore the national colors of red, white and green. Later these stripes disappeared. The white cross was toned down in the later stages of the war, becoming gray.

Although sources say that the first 109's delivered to the Hungarians were F-4's, this photo shows an earlier mark (109D?) in Hungarian markings. It is probably an old Luftwaffe aircraft delivered for training purposes. (Source: Sojusznicy Luftwaffe Cz. 2)
